Kasey & Andrew came prepared with cute props, quirky outfits and a bit of champagne to make the shoot their own! They have been hilarious and relaxed to work with. They completely adore each other, and I adore them! Kasey & I recently completed her bridal shoot as well, which I can’t wait to share after the wedding!

For Sara and Tim’s engagement session, we strolled around downtown Edmond, then found a few woodsy and grassy spots for some more nature-inspired photos. They were adorable, and their candid affection created some really great moments! They looks so good together! And did I mention- very photogenic?

Not many people will appreciate why I had a complete geeky meltdown when I received this email: “Hello, and congratulations! You have been selected as an in studio audience member for Rob Adams’s Final Cut Pro X workshop!” CreativeLive is a game-changer in the creative industry. They offer free live broadcast workshops over tons of topics such as photography, video and small business, while further positioning the teachers of those workshops as industry leaders. They also allow a small handful of students attend the workshops as the live studio audience to represent the global audience in asking questions. Those student also have the obvious benefit of meeting and connecting with the instructors.
I’ve admired the work of wedding filmmaker Rob Adams from afar ever since I first witnessed his talent on CreativeLive. He taught a weeklong crash-course in shooting wedding films from A-Z. I was able to catch the WPPI class taught by Rob and his wife Vanessa back in March of this year. (See my post over that trip here.) Attending an on-air CreativeLive course had been on my bucket list, and once I saw that Rob was coming back to teach a companion course on Final Cut Pro X, I immediately applied. I had no guess as to the likelihood of being selected (I assumed it was very slim to none), so… back to my geeky meltdown.
Within a week, I was off to Seattle- excited as I had never been anywhere near that corner of the US. (Also harboring some geeky enthusiasm for the fact that I’d be in the same city where Andria Linquist regularly shoots- her work is amazing.) During the whole trip I gave myself permission to just relax, enjoy a new city, and absorb as much as I can. That is to say, I didn’t tax myself with lugging any camera gear around on public transportation or trying to document everything, so I don’t have many photos. That’s for another time.
If you’re a fan of CreativeLive and ever have the opportunity to attend a live broadcast, you won’t be disappointed. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. Rob and Vanessa were also great, down-to-earth people. So much fun getting to know them! Rob did a fantastic job breaking everything down for us in the three-day software course, and made me excited and confident to use it when I get the chance to work on some video projects. Vanessa taught a one-day course, which I was excited to get to attend since it was back to back with Rob’s. Vanessa- if you read this, I’ve been using BlogStomp ever since (among other things you taught us), so thanks for that! I also got to meet some really cool people who were also students that I still keep in touch with.
I can’t wait to go back to Seattle- either for CreativeLive or just to explore the city when I actually have time to do so.
And I only got a little bit of crap about stealing their NBA team.

Allison & Patrick are just the sweetest. For their engagement session, we hit up some OKC spots that are special to them: Coffee Slingers in Automobile Alley and the rooftop of the Oklahoma City Museum of Art (where they got married just this past Saturday!). By the way- if you’ve never been to OKCMOA’s Cocktails on the Skyline on Thursday night in the summer… do it.

This was my second year to attend WPPI in Las Vegas, the biggest annual convention for professional portrait photographers. I was with Catie Bartlett once again, and our new recruit Jodi Campbell. (We missed our Carly Carlson this year!) We decided to drive this year… and in the words of G.O.B. Bluth, “we made a huge mistake”. Ok, maybe not, but lesson learned and we’ll have to try something different next year. Because 18 strait hours, from Oklahoma to Vegas (and back), in the car is torture. But we had a lot of cool photos opps- a blizzard on the way there, and sight-seeing on the way back.
We stayed in the MGM Grand this year, which was THE BEST, and really the only way to go. Robby & Savannah Doland attended the convention separately, but I was so excited we were able to meet up- love those guys! The biggest lesson I RE-learned this year is not to try to attend a class EVERY block, but rather choose a few topics to focus on, thereby getting a lot more out of it. I probably had a lot more tip if I’d written this post a few months ago, haha. But that was the biggest thing to stick with me. I was a lot better about it this year. I was also stoked to see some of my photo idols in person and sit in on there classes, such as Sue Bryce, and Rob & Vanessa Adams! Rob and Vanessa are incredible talents, and I had the privilege of learning from them both in depth during my trip to Seattle for Creative Live! (But that’s for a later post.)
I focused on stretching the legs of my Canon 5D Mark III, 45mm tilt-shift lens, and my fun new toy- the Fujifilm Instax 210. From here, I’ll tell the story in pictures. (Any photos of me were taken by Catie or Robby.) Many of these images are available to purchase as a print. Please email me if you’re interested!

This year we got wind of one of the raddest parties happening during WPPI- LAZERS & BLAZERS! More double exposure experiments, dressed up all fancy before heading out.

Also, if you can’t fully appreciate how jealous you should be about this party… here you go:

Toward the end of our trip, I had to show Robby & Savannah around my all-time favorite spot in Vegas- The Neon Museum.

Fulfilling our tourist duty:

On the way home, we hit the Hoover Dam (I’d never seen it before)…

…and the Grand Canyon (second visit for me- the first time being also on the way home from my first trip to Vegas):
